Home Roasting

I know it has been a while since I have posted.

I recently have been involved in a home roasting renaissance.

it has been a while since I have home roasted.

I just started this past quarter.

I forgot how much I love roasting.

I love roasting.

At it’s best roasting is perfection.

at its worst really frustrating.

I am roasting for espresso.

medium roast normale as the italians call it.

This requires a deft skilled hand at roasting.

The Roast literally has to be perfect.

Roasting normale demands perfection no mistakes.

The goal to get the coffee color and roast profile as close as possible to matching.

Today was that day.

Roasting with a heat  gun roaster I had I was able to get my roast color on all batches to line up as close as possible.

Profiling perfect.

with a drum roaster I have gotten the coffee to line up color wise perfect and exact.

I was proud that I accomplished something very close with a heat gun roaster.

This espresso blend is designed to shine in milk creamy body lovely balanced acidity.

sweet and smooth 5 ounce cappucino with 1.25 ounce ristretto shots.

This blend has panama brazil african and indonesian coffee’s in it.

I love african with brazil it is perfect in espresso.

Creamy brazil lovely acidity and body in african and panama.

Indonesian enhances the body and balances out the acidity.

The perfect balance to me for cappuccino and short 8 ounce micro caffe latte.

With organic whole milk of course.

look at the photos of today’s roasting.

http://www.lucishealthymarketplace.com

1590 E BETHANY HOME RD, PHOENIX, AZ 85014 | 602.773.1339

Is it a Market Place?

Is it a Fresh Food Fast Eatery

or is it a Coffee Bar.

Luci’s is all 3 and I love it.

How to explain the concept a healthy market place with books and herbs and vitamins supplements.

Fresh healthy food made there to eat or to go.

A coffee bar with great baked goods and bagels.

Limited selection of wine and other drinks.

Cheeses and meats as well.

I have not seen this concept before but I love love love it.

Maybe its just me but the concept is just jives with me.

I love the animated drawings and colors that pop seems very 50’s style to me its so cool.

You have to see the photos.

Stop By when you can they are at the 51 and bethany home in Phoenix.

The coffee very good shots extracted well milk foam was good latte art heart on my drink right amount of vanilla.

Quality machine simonelli custom orange aurelia 3 group semi auto.

I don’t care for the simonelli auto dosing electronic grinders but that is minor.

The only thing I don’t care for is passport coffee they are the largest bulk roaster of coffee here and there quality is not that great.

Not sure if its organic milk but hopefully.

Luci is on of the pictures behind the bar she greeted me very pleasantly upon entering.

I asked if I could take pictures for this blog and she said I could and proceeded to ask what we do I gave her the web site. Hopefully she sees this.

Good Job Luci kind courteous fast service pleasant friendly employees.

One thing I did not mention is an alternative to flavored coffees.

Brew good quality coffee and a simple syrup which is reduced sugar and water in a liquid form.

You can get syrups from a variety of manufactures that can easily flavor your coffee naturally in a variety of flavors.

Hazelnut Vanilla Amaretto Caramel Irish Cream Raspberry are all common flavors.

Brew your coffee and add 1/2 and ounce of syrup for an 8 ounce cup. 3/4 of an ounce for a 12 ounce cup 1 ounce for a 16 ounce cup and 1 1/4 ounces for 20 ounces.

And in a dash or liberal amount of half and half and you have great flavored coffee naturally.

I’ll post a link below for monin natural syrups that can be found in various speciality market or online.

There are other natural syrup manufacturers as well monin is the most common you are likely to find.

I found a link for Davinci natural syrups will post that link as well another very common brand.

Echo Coffee has an online store with a limited selection of coffees for sale online the link is below.

Thanks everyone see you next episode.
